netWORKWe are reorganizing into a networked economy. The world is changing rapidly, and is creating the need for a fast turnover of strategy and idea;, a more fluid way of thinking and approach. But for most people it is hard to do something different every day. The repetitive character of the manufactering age is transforming into something more fluid in the network economy as new stratigic approached may require different expertise than the ones inside the boudaries of the organization.

There are challenges within a network organization. One is how you resolve conflict. The idea of a network is that we all come to a consensus, but people don’t alway agree. In those times somebody has to stand up and make a decision.  One of the biggest challenges in a network is how to take action when there’s a conflict to resolve and yet not alienate all those people who had an input.

Hierarchy on the other hand offers speed and efficiency. Without some element of governance from the top, bottom-up control will freeze when options are many. Without some element of leadership, the many at the bottom will be paralyzed with choice.

So, how efficient is this network economy anyway?
