Hominoids! We can safely say that the 20th century has been the century of physics. But as always, everything has an end. And according to the prominent dutch physicist, Frans Saris, the hegemony of physics in the scientific world is over. Saris proclaims the 21st century the century of biology. ‘Physics is a theory that explains how everything fits together, how everything is constructed. Biology, as ruled by Darwin’s theory of evolution, explains how everything works’ Saris says (login required.) The theory of evolution as the Theory of Everything? This sounds like a paradigm shift to me! What does it mean to physics? What does it mean to biology? But more important, what does it mean to us?

Well, what do you think? The Theory of Everything as you linked it is pure physics, so do you or does Saris mean that the theory of evolution is the ‘real’ theory of everything or is there a need for again a new word for it? What in fact does evolution mean in your vocabulary and in Saris’ and others? Or what to think of ‘quantum evolution’ (physics)? I don’t want to object only, but there is much more to this then what you stated… I think :-)

answer your questions. tell me, what DO you think?

the most interesting aspect from this observation is the change of perception of the world. physics is looking at the world as something that fits, they are searching for truth. i think biology (evolutionary biology) is trying to find out how it WORKS, they are searching for ‘the rules of the game’.

perhaps physics could benefit from a change of perspective. and that might be what Saris meant. (he is a physicist and tried to ’shake up’ his own field a little bit.)
