On February 20th, 1909, a belligerent manifesto announcing the birth of the Futurist movement appeared on the front page of the Paris newspaper Le Figaro and had immediate repercussions throughout Europe. The author, a young Italian poet named F.T. Marinetti, demanded that writers and artists reject the classic art of the past and celebrate the dynamic technology of modern city life. Joined by a group of like-minded artists, over the following years Marinetti pioneered an art that would represent…
Bunga bridges the gap between social footprint (what a company is) and the company itself (identified by name or synonym) in any web accessible context. Everyone can get a footprint anywhere on the web.
Everyone, in society, leaves his footprints. Some of these are good, and some of them not. As responsible members of this society we look at ourselves. We believe disclosure (being transparent) is necessary to ‘report’ to society. Disclosure is not always voluntary. In this connected world a covering up is increasingly difficult. But we thought we could take this principle of transparency one step further. We created Bunga!
‘Me the Media’ deals with user generated content and the questions it raises. Like:
- If everybody is in control, than who is in charge?
- If the medium has just become a medium, than where is the message?
- How do we deal with the fact that mass-media turn into a media-mass?
- ….
FreedomLab partnered with Vint in a visual-experiment. We tried to visualize the history, present and future of media by applying a kind of Dogma-style rules. Could we visualize the book in ten minutes by using 100% YouTube material
Although the United States is currently the world’s only military and economic superpower, the nation’s superpower status may not last. The possible futures of the global system and the role of U.S. power are illuminated by careful study of the past. This book addresses the problems of conceptualizing and assessing hegemonic rise and decline in comparative and historical perspective. Several chapters are devoted to the study of hegemony in premodern world-systems. And several chapters scrutinize…
A partner research-institute (VINT) just released their 2008 study, this year it is about the Third Media Revolution. Their study is presented via a conference and now a book (which is available for free at this site). ‘Me the Media’ deals with user generated content and the questions it raises. Like:
- If everybody is in control, than who is in charge?
- If the medium has just become a medium, than where is the message?

WOW… there is a lot of stuff going on in the world. A good reason to extend our reach, so we are looking for a new researcher who will assist in several Future Studies which are currently running. As always, our new Lab-inhabitants will have the opportunity to be a ‘trainee’ for one year to make sure there is an optimal time to learn about our methodologies and insights. So, no worries about that. What do you need to bring? A lot of conflicting skills (without itchy sand there will be no pearls in an Oister =): curiosity, professionalism, passion for learning new insights, open minded though firm in sharing your own opinion, thoroughness, creative, analytical entrepreneurial state of mind, independent, teamplayer, likes to read, is fascinated by off-the-beaten-track, think, debate, write, present and above all to tell stories. Easy usage with the web is a benefit since our unique knowledge-system is supposed to be one of your new best friends. In addition we like to be very multi-discplinairy… so we will look at the additional skills and perspectives you add to the team. Don’t hesitate… just write us an email at rob@freedomlab.org.

The Netherlands is reputed to have the highest average population density in the world though it is increasingly becoming distributed in low density suburban areas threatening to transform the country into a sort of city state. The architects’ bureau MVRDV and students at Delft University have sought to remedy this situation by proposing areas of ultra-density inserted into pastoral landscapes. This book sets out to discover the prospects and limitations, the world of the extreme Floor Area Ratio, or FARMAX.

Last week professor Jos de Haan was appointed to the chair of ‘ICT, culture and knowledge society’ at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. In his acceptance lecture he talked about the decreasing interest of young people in cultural historical traditions and about the effect the internet has had on the lack of this interest. Yes, when I was researching this generation for our latest study I realized how much technology was part of the daily lives of this generation. But I doubt whether the use of the internet is causing the digital generation to loose its heritage. Isn’t that something of all ages?
